Marc Heyison
In 1992, Mr. Heyison's mother, Gloria, was diagnosed with breast cancer. To date she has remained cancer free. Since his mother's diagnosis, Mr. Heyison's passion has been the fight to eradicate breast cancer. Mr. Heyison has created two 501 (c) 3 non-profit organizations, The Gloria Heyison Breast Cancer Foundation and Men Against Breast Cancer.
In 1994, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Marc began an annual golf tournament held honor of his mother. In 1996, Marc founded his first non-profit in honor and in love of his mother called The Gloria Heyison Breast Cancer Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer by supporting programs promoting early detection and education. In 1999, along with Stephen Peck he co-founded Men Against Breast Cancer, the first national non-profit organization designed to target and mobilize men to become active participants in the fight to eradicate breast cancer.
Mr. Heyison serves as the Executive Director of The Gloria Heyison Breast Cancer Foundation and is the Co-Founder and President of Men Against Breast Cancer. In addition, he is a member of The National Breast Cancer Coalition, as well as one of the few male graduates of their Project LEAD program. Mr. Heyison is the 2000 recipient of The Columbia Hospital For Women's Outstanding Individual Commitment Award in the fight against breast cancer. He also one of 2001 WUSA's TV 9 "Nine Who Care" Awards for community service in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and The Thomas Jefferson Award from The American Institute, one of the highest civilian volunteer awards granted in the United States. Mr. Heyison is also a member of the State of Maryland's Maryland Cancer Consortium Community Agency Committee.
A graduate from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and former professional baseball player in the Baltimore Orioles farm system, Mr. Heyison currently owns Top Notch, Inc., a company specializing in promotional products and imprinted/embroidered apparel.
In 1996, Mr. Heyison was elected to The George Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 1999 he was elected to the Greater Washington, D.C. Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
